GATHER PLACE MUSEUM celebrates black history month 2023!

Saturdays & Sundays 12 pm - 3 pm - Learn about Yardley Borough’s diversity of people including African Americans who trace their lineage from the 1700s to current day decedents, many still residing here! Plus, learn about the Underground Railroad and Historic Yardley's Borough's "stops."

Visit our permanent walkthrough and view Gather Place Museum exhibit, includes our documented historical timeline beginning from 1682 about Yardley Borough’s Quaker founders, supported by actual photos of its landmark structures, its people, and its industry. Learn about Yardley Borough’s diversity of people including African Americans who trace their lineage from the 1700s to current day decedents still residing here.

Sit down on one of our comfortable seats in Gather Place Museum’s theatre like setting and watch this presentation on our super big screen.  Join us for this wonderful opportunity to listen and learn through this program authored by 3rd generation Yardley Borough resident – Shirley Lee Corsey. Her research and interviews of current day African American decedents, who’s family members were and still part of Yardley Borough’s everyday life going back to the 1700s. Recollections, conversations, and photographs illustrate the activities, traditions, events, and landmark buildings that make this town so special.

We'll end this 45-minute program with our talk, details, and photos about Historic Yardley's Borough's own Underground RR "stops!"

Saturday, february 25, 2023: harriet tubman live!

1 pm - 3 pm: first-person presentation by Shirley Lee Corsey, as Harriet Tubman

“Harriet” will speak to her audience about her early life on the Maryland plantation she was born and enslaved, her escape from slavery up to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and beyond to freedom!
This inspirational interpretation of Harriet Tubman’s amazing long life includes her return trips to that same Maryland plantation, as she led many others to freedom and about the people who helped her as well. Learn about several other history makers she became to know along the way. Learn about how and why she had to continue her harrowing journey further north up to New York State and into Canada. Plus, her amazing life during and post the American Civil War era and her work with women’s suffrage movement. We will end with talk about Bucks County's Underground Railroad "stops.".

*Following are these programs created, developed and produced by Shirley Lee Corsey:


  • Commemorating Lucretia Mott and Frederick Douglass abolitionist and women’s suffrage movement pioneers (women’s right to vote). Learn about their fascinating connections to Bucks County!


  • The African-American Suffragists History Forgot; Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Ida B. Wells (just to name a few of the many other women to learn about.)


  •  Pennsylvania's Women who contributed to the cause for the abolition of slavery and women’s right to vote!
