Join us on an inspiring journey at Gather Place Museum as we launch The Generational Voices Project, thanks to the 2024 National Trust for Historic Preservation - Preserving Black Churches grant. As the first and only Bucks County History Museum to receive this honor, we're led by Shirley Lee Corsey, aiming to capture Yardley's essence since the 1700s, rooted in figures like Mary Derry, Yardley's oldest documented African American.
Since March 2024, we've been delving into Yardley's African American history, revealing untold stories through interviews, a documentary, and an upcoming book. Celebrating the resilience and unity of Yardley Borough's African American community, the Generational Voices Project pays homage to the founders of the AME Church of Yardley and countless others. “Voices”
long silenced by history, such as the Derry, Mayo, Coleman, Nicholson, Vaugh, Robertson, Coney, Lee, McIntyre, Reading, Turner families, and many other are amplified, revealing their enduring contributions to Yardley's culture.
Stay tuned for a red carpet "sneak preview" event this fall 2024! Celebrate with us and preserve our shared heritage.
We invite you to share your family legacy from Yardley Borough's hidden African American community.
